Bahamas: Abacos; Green Turtle Cay – Day 6

2025-02-24

First thing Wendy stripped the beds and washed the sheets. The diesel tech was due, and we expected to have to put him up for the night. Wendy and Dave booked a room at the Bluff House and departed. Diesel tech arrived at 11:00 and by 11:10 preliminary diagnosis was a failure of the water pump shaft seal leading to loss of coolant.

A few hours later, after draining & saving the coolant, the tech had removed all the belt guards to get better access to the water pump. He put the hoses back in place and filled the coolant system with water. We could observe a slow drip from the water pump. Upon starting the engine, the slow drip turned into a creek. Diagnosis confirmed. The tech secured the engine so I could run it, leaving the belt guards off to reduce the time needed to replace the water pump.

I called Wendy, who returned with the golf cart. Then I drove the tech to the ferry in New Plymouth. Back to Loop Dawg. Wendy took off to the hotel to clean up for dinner. I took a shower, and I worked a bit. Dave returned to pick me up. We went to the Boathouse Restaurant and had a wonderful dinner, after which Wendy dropped me back at Loop Dawg.

67 nights to go
