We got up and it was windy. Dan got gas for the dinghy, and I got some Bud Light for me. Getting off the dock was a challenge due to the wind and the current, and there was nobody around to help. We managed to do it, but Dan had to pull me up onto the boat! We were originally headed to Fish Dock, but Dan changed his mind because local knowledge was required, so instead we anchored in the middle of nowhere in the Duplin River at Sapelo Island N31°25.28′ W081°17.78′. There was an eight-foot tide and the current was ripping. There was a Ferry Dock to land for getting to shore. There was an incident at this dock last fall you can read about it here.
Choosing anchorages: There is a repeat theme in our anchorage selection. Because we have a dog aboard who refuses to use the “grass” on the boat we look for anchorages which make landing ashore with a dog easy. Having a dock, or boat ramp (which usually has a dock) makes it easier to get Liam ashore.
