Bahamas: Abacos; Lynyard Cay to Elbow Key – Hopetown Inn and Marina

2025-03-02

Sunny with puffy clouds; Wind 7-9 mph.

Departed Lynyard Cay at 9:45-ish, headed to Hope Town – Elbow Cay. Got a slip at Hopetown Inn and Marina; all moorings were taken. Steve and Mindy didn’t mess up the ropes/fenders too badly; Dan only had to retie the knots. We were assisted into the slip by Marina staff and our slip neighbor. Off to lunch! Had lunch at the restaurant at the Inn — most in-town places closed as it is Sunday. Dan and Steve had mahi-mahi (blackened sandwiches); Mindy had a lighthouse salad (actually Steve and Mindy split their meals). We were offered a free margarita, which we gladly accepted. Dan and Steve enjoyed their first “couples” drink. Mindy took a brief siesta while Dan did a few tasks and Steve did PT.

6:00-ish, took shuttle to Post Office dock and walked the hotel settlement. Not much open as it was Sunday, but very picturesque. Met Tim & Kim on the shuttle, very bubbly couple — offered us a ride to the places that were open, but we declined. Had to wait for the return ferry (called, but it must have been dinner break). Guy told Dan, “No problem,” but maybe he whispered under his breath, “when I get to it.” We’re on island time. So, it’s all good.

The shuttle home was full, and we had to make a few stops to drop off/pick up. Two young ladies got off at a boat—a Beneteau 48—and then the gossip mill started. Wow. Another super-drunk group of 20- to 30-somethings. Apparently, they partied all night—lots of yelling and swearing (puking). The “man” of the group (“Daddy’s boat”) was pissed because he dropped the outboard to the dinghy in the drink, along with his cell phone, and apparently, he was blaming his girlfriend. Too much to explain here, but it was cuckoo. The girls “joined” us at Alfresco (the Inn’s restaurant bar), and we got some additional detail straight from the horse’s mouth because she was talking to her mom on speakerphone. Enjoyed some Painkillers (sans nutmeg, which it turns out is essential), and a second drink along with mashed potatoes (Mindy) and conch fritters and chicken rangoons, which Dan and Steve split. Back on board, having a nightcap and planning tomorrow’s activities.

Chart plot of today’s cruise.

61 nights to go
